Almost one year into my no buy of fast fashion, only purchasing through consignment and thrift stores. I don't see my self looking back. We have been told a story that casts us in the role of consumers, people who merely take in products that were made far away. The reality is that as human beings we make choices, and the choices we make around what we wear are having profound implications for our planet as well as for some of our most vulnerable fellow human beings. We have so much power to change the world by just being self aware of what we buy.

Happy #nationalthriftshopday !
I’ve been thrifting for as long as I can remember and what started as a fun hobby has now become my lifestyle!
I try to thrift or buy secondhand everything I wear and own, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back! ⠀⠀
I made a commitment to myself earlier this year to buy secondhand as much as possible, to help reduce the amount of waste I created through clothes, to stop supporting #fastfashion, and to save my wallet 😅 Since thrifting was always something I loved, I ended up finding it easier then I thought! Everything in this picture was thrifted or secondhand (except the blackout curtains, those were a gift), so our loveseat, the Afghan, the picture in the wall, the side table, and everything I’m wearing is thrifted or secondhand. I’ve always had a different and unique, not really “nameable” style, and was never really satisfied with the clothes, decor, or furniture I was finding for new. Now that I thrift everything, I found that my house and wardrobe is filled with unique, one-of-a-kind items that I TRULY love.
What’s your thrift journey? Do you love to thrift? Let me know! ⠀⠀

Just 6 weeks to go! With speakers like @elizabethlcline and Jennifer Silberman from @target, these tickets will not last long...😎 Get your tickets at unveilingfashion.com
Happy #NationalThriftShopDay! 🌿
Do you buy #secondhandclothes? I’ve been slowly changing my closet and moving as faaaar away from fast fashion as possible!
#Fastfashion is second only to oil as the world’s largest polluter! Not only that, but fast fashion goes hand in hand with unfair and unsafe working conditions.
Brands like H&M try to greenwash society and introduce wanna-be sustainable collections. They recycle clothes?? How wonderful it would be if they really did. Nothing can hide the fact that they treat their factory employees terribly and pollute the environment like crazy.
And believe me, I get it. #Thrifting clothes is not easy. First, most thrift stores are big and overwhelming. Also, if you’re not comfortable shopping there you may not find what fits your style.
But it’s all just a matter of giving a try. You’ll be surprised how many gems you can find at the thrift store. You get to help the environment and save money? Who says this sustainable life is expensive?
What are your go-to thrift stores? #chooseused

Goxto assim 💁

30 DAYS STRAIGHT OF WEARING THE SAME DRESS
I can’t believe I’m on day 30 already. The last month has passed by so quickly and now it’s time for me to reflect on this experience and share with you all.
WHY DO IT?
I did this mainly to challenge my whole view on fashion. To be able to step outside of today’s use of fashion, which often means to have a lot of different clothes and vary day to day. To try to stay in trend and keep an eye on the latest fashion.
Because the way the fashion industry works nowadays, it’s not enough of a change to keep our habits but swap to organic and fairly produced items instead.
We need to consume less.
We need to own less.
We need to cherish the clothes we have and go for quality instead of quantity.
Choose clothes we know will last for many years, and that we will love for at least as long.
This throwaway attitude where clothes have such little value to us emotionally as well as economically is doing is taking a massive toll on our planet as well as using vulnerable communities for modern slavery.
HOW DID IT GO?
I’m not gonna lie.
I have absolutely loved it, felt absolutely no need to wear anything else and I’m not sure I want to wear anything else for a long time.
Not having to spend a single second to consider what to wear every day is so refreshing that I feel like I should try something similar in other areas, so I get more time thinking about more important stuff.
The amount of choices and decisions we make each day is mind blowing and can cause stress in many cases.
And yes, I have washed it several times during this challenge. I don’t know why so many people ask me that 😂
Do you think you could try this kind of challenge?
What are your thoughts on this? Can you see the reasoning behind me wanting to try it out?
What do you think about the fashion industry and how it affects you and other people? Do you think the fashion industry is problematic? 📸by: @carolinefrankesjo
