The African wild Dog or painted hunted dog. These are one of our favourite animals and one of the most beautiful animals on the planet. Living in Africa living close tight packs. They are on average per hunt the most successful carnivore. Even though face competition from leopards lions and hyaena. The biggest threat is is man kind. Due to human expansion and demand for land more cattle herders are taking there herds into wild territory. Living traps and poison for the dogs and even shooting them. Plus where young dogs are ready to leave the pack and form a pack of there own they have no where to go. Being completely blocked by human settlement . but we are trying to help. We are working with various organisations to help the wild dog. Will you help us? Let us know. Message us to help

Another African girls drawing, I can stop drawing them lately! Here they are with some of their pack members. Most of them have some scars etc, it's becouse this pack likes to fight with other animals such as lions, hyenas etc. Just for fun sometimes ;) Here they have encountered probably some other pack, so some of them are eager to have some fun. As I have told you before light awd was protective over dark one from the begining. Dark one have more scars though, its becouse even though she's kinda shy she can be hella angery girl, like, if someone is attacking her girl she will be fighting till the end ;)

Fantastic news from @painted_dog_conservation : the anti poaching unit with the help of Jessi the K9 patrol dog has successfully apprehended a poacher in the Hwange buffer zone. The team discovered 34 fresh copper wire snares and after an ambush managed to arrest one of the poachers. This is one of the projects #explorersagainstextinction is supporting this year. We hope to donate $10,000 US to support PDC anti-poaching & K9 patrols.
Since the inception of PDC’s anti-poaching patrols in 2001, over 30,000 snares have been recovered. Based on recent activity levels, PDC estimate the total number of snares to be confiscated during the 2019-2020 period will be approximately 3,000.
It's not only the painted dogs which suffer - these crude snares also injure other species including lion and hyena.
Did you know? Local artists at the Iganyana Arts Centre use the snare wire collected by the anti-poaching units to create impressive, distinctive wire animal sculptures/jewellery.

African Painted dogs. Status: endangered. It was classified as endangered by the IUCN in 2016, as it had disappeared from much of its original range. The 2016 population was estimated at roughly 39 subpopulations containing 6,600 adults, only 1,400 of which were reproductive. The decline of these populations is ongoing, due to habitat fragmentation, human persecution and disease outbreaks. #survivalsunday is back!!! Today I want to tell you about an animal that captured my heart the first time I heard about them. The African wild dog, sometimes referred to as the painted dog. The dogs hunt in packs ranging from 10 to even 40 individuals, showing just how social these animals are. Sadly before the animals had entered the endangered list packs of as much as 100 were recorded. The pack sticks together, the entire pack helps in raising the young where both males and females babysit the pups and the hunters will even regurgitate meals for a nursing mother and her pups. They are some of the most effective hunters in Africa, during a long chase when one dog tires it is quickly replaced by another with full energy making it almost impossible for their prey to outlast them. In order to feed the pack the pack must get a kill everyday. They have a lifespan of 10 to 12 years and typically weigh 40 to 79 pounds. Sadly there are only 6,600 dogs left in the wild this is due to numerous factors such as being shot or poisoned by farmers who blame them for livestock kills usually made by a leopard or hyena. But the main threat to this species is habitat fragmentation which decreases the area for them to roam, decreases the genetic diversity of the population and also increases human conflict with them. Eventhough this species is so well equipped to thrive in their environment because of human activity have become the 2nd most endangered species in Africa. Let's keep this beautiful animal on this planet and not let them become a painful memory. #africanwilddog#painteddog#dog#dogs#endangered#beautiful#survival#ecology#conservation#balance#nature#animal#predator#animallover#environment#hunter#life#family#pack#care#guardianecology
Awd girls as a kids, they were sticking together since being little pups, lighter one often protective of more shy dark one :) but she can be rough too, don't be foled by her innocent eyes ;D in bg some pups and adult from their pack :) its not so detailed since being quick one, but also have bg, I haven't drawn backgrounds in long time ;o

This is a character I drew last week for homework. She is a Painted Dog (aka an African Wild Dog), they are now endangered and not many people even know they exist. I took some artistic liberties with simplifying the spots, but the body shape and coloration is more realistic. Her name means flower in Tswana ,the native language of Botswana, which is where Painted Dogs live.
I absolutely love the colours of African Wild Dogs and their huge ears! 🥰🐕
Blonde Botswana pup.. Amazing adaptation, can't be a coincidence that many Botswana dogs living on the edge of the Kalahari tend to be much lighter compared to dogs say living in the Zambezi Valley? This dog was happy to return to the den after a successful early morning hunt.
Thats a 98% decline in population from 1900 to 2019…😔

From @marlondutoit: I loved this “stand off” between a white rhino bull & the alpha male wild dog. We were fortunate enough to see this on a recent pvt safari to @malamalagamereserve with friend & guest @killer_maui_miller. We’d spent some time with the dogs when the rhino arrived on the scene. We gave him right of way & he eventually moved along. The dogs made way too & all was peacefully resolved.
What an incredible sight it was!
